At thirteen years of age, Kristina is wise beyond her years, which is the very reason why she is the babysitter for Mark and Seymour. No one in town has ever seen her without her book bag, from which she pulls books on endless topics to answer questions and solve problems, and she can ride a bike as well as anyone. Even as a young teenager, she can physically hold her own with anyone; older kids and even boys. She comes to the swamp for two reasons; to protect the boys, and because of the secret crush she has on Johnny Marshmallow, and, therefore, a desire to help him clear his tarnished name.
